Fight Church Documentary

Over the last few years, I have received many phone calls from TV stations and studios from all around the world that have wanted to fly out to Seattle, interview me, interview fighters connected to our ministry, and film our weekend services. My church has gotten used to TV cameras on Sundays. Most recently Current TV featured Fight Pastor on their documentary television series Vanguard. Last I checked you could still watch the episode, Cage Fighting in the USA, on demand. In fact, a friend told me he was flying on Jet Blue airlines and watched the episode on their inflight entertainment.

A couple years ago a documentary filmmaker approached me about featuring Fight Pastor in a documentary he was doing on faith and mixed martial arts. Last July, he filmed at our church and interviewed me and some of the fighters that attend my church.

Several months past before I heard anything else about the project. I assumed it had gotten scrapped. The director, Daniel Junge, called me in the fall and let me know that he was just temporarily putting the project on hold because he was up for an Academy Award for his most recent film, Saving Face. Incredibly, in February, Saving Face won an Oscar for Best Documentary Short!

Next up…..Fight Church. (Let me pause and say, how cool is that!)

Daniel is partnering with several other amazing filmmakers, Brian Storkel, Eben Kostbar, and Joseph McKelheer, to finish the project this year. They are currently trying to raise the final funds they need to finish the project. Please know, I don’t personally have anything to do with the film other than being one of the ministers featured. I granted the interview because I felt it was a great opportunity to represent Jesus and the ministry we have to the MMA community. So check it out!
