Jesus Came…in the most interesting way

By Morgan Butcher in Uprising on 12/7/09

It is finally getting cold, the trees are naked, the cocoa is out, the trees are being cut, the ornaments hung, the nativity scenes set out.  I work in a religious supply store part-time, so I have already set up my fare share of the wise men and animals, the sheperds, Mary and Jospeh’s, and of course baby Jesus himself.  Just chillin in the manger.  The King of kings surrounded by smelly animals, hay, nobody shepherds, and nobody parents.  I have to remind myself every year that we are talking about JESUS CHRIST!  The Messiah, King of kings, the son of God, our Savior, Healer, our best friend!
I sat around my fire with my wife and dog, and an eggnog latte and read through Luke 2:1-52 like i do every year about this time of the year.  This year i thought I would just blog on a couple of things that i was thinking of while reading through the birth of Jesus.

1. Jesus came to us dependent on us!
Sounds wierd i know.  But think about it!  Just like any baby, they are relying on their parents to care for them!  To teach them how to walk and talk.  Im sure God would have made it happen one way or another, but could you imagine how difficult it would have been for Jesus had he not been able to walk or talk!  Im not sure they had perfected sign language back then!

2. Jesus came humble.
Jesus didnt come into the earth on a sleep number bed, with catering services and a maid to fluff his baby blanket.  The Guy came in to a bail of freaking hay!  Not only was it a bail of freaking hay; that freaking hay was sitting in a nasty feeding trough the animals sitting next to Him were eating out of two hours earlier!  Verse 7 goes on to say that he was wrapped in cloths… really… cloths… Im pretty sure they werent put through the washing machine that night in preparation for Him.  He came into the world no different than anyone else.  This only enforces that there is no life too trashy or too low for Him to feel for.  That alone is enough for me to say thank you.

3.  Jesus came with questions and listening.
Later on it talks about Jesus staying behind His parents after the Passover celebration in verse 41.  Three days later Mary and Joseph returned to find Him sitting in the temple with the religious teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.  First of all… what kid hasn’t ran away from his parents, leaving them wondering… ‘um… where… what… how… crap…’  But at the same time what little kid doesnt have a thousand questions!  Take it from a youth pastor!

4.  Jesus came learning our ways, before he ever asked us questions.
It seems as though the Son of God, the one closest to the creator of the universe, would already know exactly what to say, how to say it, and wouldnt wait to question what we were doing!  But He did, for thirty years he learned our ways, before he ever asked a question.

What a deal huh.  I cant say that i would ever expect the Savior of the world to take such a interesting entrance.  But then again why wouldnt He.  He human, just like us.  But when i think over these things, i am so thankful for His most interesting entrance.
Have an awesome Christmas, and be thankful this year for the humble, dependant, saving God that we were presented!
