Last night Diego Sanchez Lost, but He isn’t a Loser.

By Pastor Christian on 12/13/09

Why?  Because he persevered; Because he pressed-on against all odds.

If you saw that fight, then you saw BJ Penn dominate Sanchez from the first moments of the 1st Round. The initial attack from BJ knocked him down and hurt him bad – but he did not stay down. An average man would have been down – for a month, but Diego got up and kept on fighting for 4 more grueling rounds! Bruised and bleeding, that man would not quit.

I think Diego Sanchez showed a rare an admirable perseverance. So, in my mind he might not have won the fight, but he is still a winner.

You may not know this about him, but Diego is a Christian. And I would venture to bet that his fighting spirit crosses over into the practice of his faith.

How do you think a guy like Diego walks out the struggles of his faith? How do you think someone like him faces an issue like sexual temptation? Do you think he knows how to control his body? Do you think he has mastered the lure of surrender? Do you think he knows how to persevere through hardship?    Well, he sure OUGHT to!

If he can withstand 25 minutes in the octagon with the Hilo Prodigy, then he should be able to withstand almost anything else!

In I Corinthians. 9:27, Paul says that he beats his body into submission so that he will be ready for the arena. In Philippians 3:12, he promises that he will press in (word used means FIGHT) for that for which Christ Jesus took hold of him.

You have to admit, win or loose, that Diego Sanchez displayed discipline, pressed-on and obviously prepared his body to be ready for the arena.

I wonder. How are you? Are you familiar with discipline? Are you ready for the arena? Can you persevere and press-on so that you will not be disqualified for the prize? (I Cor. 9:27)

It is my honest prayer for myself and every Christian. May God develop in us peace, love, mercy and the disciplined strength to persevere.

Blessings,

Christian
