This Sunday, as a part of our ongoing series on Solomon’s Song of Songs, Brandon suggested that who you marry is the second most important decision of your life. Preceded only by your choice to accept Jesus as God . . .and that got me thinking.
Consider that the first choice (accepting Jesus as God) establishes your view of reality and thus why you have a life. Your second choice (who you marry) establishes your primary human relationship(s) and thus who you have in this life. And I would like to add a third, (your work) establishes how you spend the majority of your hours and thus what you do during this life.
Taken together, these three choices actually do form both basis and course of your life!
So, I must challenge you to stop and consider your choices!
If you have not made them yet – I beg you to proceed with passion and care. These choices matter.
If you have already made these choices, I ask, have you embraced them for their value? Or, have you surrendered some of these categories to defeat, despair or complacency?
How is your relationship with God, Spouse, and Employer? Could they be better? Could you begin to make choices TODAY that would improve any of the categories?
Do you need to repair your relationship with God and thus re-establish your view of reality? He is always ready to receive you (I John 1:9) Do you need to re-invest in your relationship with your spouse and thus enjoy THE relationship of your life? Your kids? Your family? How about work? Do you need to re-commit yourself to being excellent at your job or just find a new job? Your work belongs to God, so all work can be good (Col. 3:17).
I want to encourage you that all these choices /changes /commitments are worth it. You only get this one life, this one shot then its gone. I suggest you make good choices and Live this life to the full!
What do you think? Would you add another “Big Decision?” Would you drop any of the ones I suggested? Are you struggling to find meaning or hope in any of these choices?
