The Power of Community

By Pastor Di on 12/8/10

If you are on the City at Canyon Creek, you may have noticed a prayer request that went out this past Saturday.  It was from Chris Smith, and he was asking for prayer for his 14 month old son Joshua.  Joshua had spiked a high fever and was rushed to Children’s Hospital after having a seizure.  Following his initial request for prayer, Chris posted 4 updates on how Joshua was doing, including an additional trip to the ER with more prayer needed.  In response to Chris’ request for prayer, 17 people replied with the commitment to pray for Joshua’s healing, including 2 people who shared that they could relate to this experience and were praying from a place of deep compassion; one of those people has only been at Canyon Creek three times! And all of this happened over the weekend when many people (including me) are away from computers and email.

As the pastor at Canyon Creek who typically sends out emergency prayer requests, I was floored to finally get onto the City and see the rally of our people around the Smith family.  I had spoken and prayed with Chris by phone, but I had no idea that others were already in prayer.  What a blessing to a family enduring such a scary experience to see the love and support of their church family.  And what a blessing for those in prayer to see continued updates posted so they could be praying specifically for Joshua’s condition.

The City has been a big transition for Canyon Creek, but it is examples like these that show me the power of community. The more we make community “easy” the easier it is for the people of Canyon Creek to pray for and show love, support and encouragement to each other.  I am proud of each of you who are putting your shoulder under the burdens of those in our Canyon Creek community.  Keep praying!  Let’s see the last of those mountains MOVED!
