What does it mean to be REAL?

By Pastor Christian on 8/9/11

At the most basic level, I think it means we are not pretending at religion or being the church. That means “all of this stuff we do” is not some religious game or façade that we erect to be accepted, powerful or popular. We actually believe that Jesus is God; came to earth as a man, walked, ate, preformed miracles; was killed on a cross, resurrected three days later and is now in heaven finishing His plan by the Holy Spirit. We further believe that Jesus’ mission was to reconcile REAL people back to God, making a way for broken humanity through his own perfect obedience and gruesome death on the cross.

Therefore, we do not see anybody like we used to, but regarding everyone as valuable and created in the image of God, we strive to see them all reconciled back to Him.

So how could we pretend? Why would we bother? What reason would we have to act superior or self-righteous? How could we be shocked at REAL human problems or the depths of depravity? We are not. We are REAL.

REAL people. REAL problems. REAL Gospel. REAL hope. REAL Life. REALly Grateful.
