Shoulda - Woulda - Coulda

By Pastor Christian on 7/25/10

This morning Brandon continued our series on the Song of Solomon, reflecting on Solomon’s great fall from the idyllic relationship detailed in this book to his massive failure of polygamy. Although he started strong, he let this horror creep into his life, steal his perfect marriage, ruin a huge segment of his life and destroy his faithful legacy.

I suspect most of us can look back at some moment, decision or period in our lives and wish we could have done it better.

Honestly, its all Shoulda - Woulda - Coulda.

It IS true it is never too late to turn around and do the right thing because God has declared his unrelenting willingness to forgive us.

But, I must stress that we CAN NOT get that time back. We can not recover lost years of marriage. We can not make our kids young again. We can’t replay the night it all went wrong. It really is gone. Time is amazingly unforgiving that way. Once the arrow is shot it can not be brought back onto the bow.

So, I have learned a terrible but good lesson that I would share. In fact, it is one of the top 3 rules of my whole life - A life of Discipline is a life of Joy

My Choices Matter. It all matters – therefore, I will live each day with a discipline that reveres this truth. I will not quit. I will not succumb to selfishness. I will not pout. I will ask for forgiveness. I will not create a life that I will regret.

I know this sounds intense, to some even legalistic or impossibly hard. Well, I admit sometimes it is hard. But it is not nearly as hard as sin and regret.

So what do you say?  You with me or are you ready for a life of Shoulda - Woulda - Coulda?.
